two weeks down...

So tomorrow Huck will be two weeks old.  I can't believe how fast it's gone by.  And yet, I can't even remember what I did two hours ago, so it's not that surprising.  Our first week out of the gate was not exactly what I imagined it to be.  I ended up battling some severe mastitis along with the usual lack of sleep and figuring out breast feeding a newborn stuff.  It started the night my milk came in..super intense shivers followed by incredibly high fevers (up to 104 one night) and then trying to get that down so I could feed Huck to relieve the pressure.  My midwife ended up donating a breast pump to us so I could pump between feedings...it was a life saver for sure.  We used lots of natural remedies and that worked for about three days, but by Friday of last week I just couldn't do it anymore.  I felt like crap and needed relief so we had some antiobiotics called in.  Since then I have felt so much better and am finally feeling like I can be a "Mom" for Huck.

As for our baby boy...he's doing good.  He's big, healthy, and definitely figuring out this big crazy world.  Some fun developments: eyes opening, attempting to lift his head a lot, and finally pooping! (it took him a solid week to get some good poops out).  Some challenges: he's taken to sucking all the time...so even if he's done eating, he'll lay there and suck till he falls asleep.  Not a big problem, but that means my poor ta-ta's get worked over.  He also seems to have his days and nights mixed up.   I suppose that's all part of figuring out a routine...but man are we tired! :)
